The days of having a mine of great candidates available for work are gone. Even considering the unemployment rate of today, hiring managers aren’t filling vacancies as quickly as before because they are dissatisfied with the candidates that are presenting themselves for hire. Maybe you have an unrealistic expectation in that you would like to hire that “rock star” or “chili pepper”, but the salary for that type of candidate is more than you can pay. Then again, maybe you are looking at hiring as an event or a process, or hire strictly on experience without looking at the “whole” person. In today’s job market, being a Hiring Manager is certainly a challenge.
